Tamagold-Tech - Ludum Dare 60

Taking care of a virtual pet sounded like an easy job. Unfortunately, this one controls the room—and doesn’t handle disappointment very well.

In Tamagold-Tech, you must look after a giant electronic pet from inside a first-person, platform-filled chamber. Pay attention to its needs, choose the right action, and complete a minigame to keep it happy.

Keep your pet happy

  • Feed: find a food bowl somewhere in the room, pick it up, and deliver it before time runs out. Moving platforms obstruct your view and complicate the journey.
  • Play: follow a moving trail of illuminated floor tiles. Complete several connected paths without straying from the light.
  • Sleep: search among raised platforms for a hidden switch. Turn off the lights so your pet can rest—but stay alert, because they will gradually turn back on.

Choosing the wrong action or failing a minigame makes your pet angry. Its preferred way of expressing frustration? Launching spears through the floor.

Behind the scenes

The game was built in Unity, using the New Input System for first-person movement and interaction.

The pet’s behavior runs through a C# state machine, separated from its presentation and the individual minigames. Character animations use frame-by-frame sprite playback, with ScriptableObjects storing animation frames and mapping them to gameplay states.

The room’s tile grid supports the different challenges, from illuminated paths to moving obstacles and randomized spear attacks. Lighting changes use Global Volume post-processing, allowing us to simulate darkness and mood shifts while keeping the environment’s baked lighting.

Controls

  • WASD: move
  • Mouse: look around
  • E: interact, pick up food, and deliver it
  • Space: jump
  • Left Shift: sprint
  • Left Ctrl: walk slowly
